We celebrate the world. We celebrate every child.
At the Rainbow Workshop and Learning Center we use a center based, developmentally appropriate curriculum that has been formulated and developed by Elizabeth A. Lawton over a time span of 41 years and is ours alone.
It is a unique and diverse curriculum owned solely by Elizabeth A. Lawton and the Rainbow Workshop and Learning Center. This cannot be copied in written form or in practice without the written consent of Elizabeth A. Lawton.
The curriculum has been copyrighted since 1996 and in 2008, a federally registered trademark was obtained.
It meets the N.A.E.Y.C. national guidelines and meets all of the guidelines set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Education, as well as meeting all criteria and guidelines of the National Center for Social Studies and World Peace Enhancement.
In 2020, the Rainbow Workshop and Learning Center received training and was certified with distinction to create an outdoor curriculum and classroom by the Eastern Region of Forest and Nature Schools.
This curriculum has received recognition from the National Geographic Society and the Distinction of National Geographic Educator was received in 2019.
Our approach is that of whole language by which all that we do during our day incorporates and encourages the following skills to develop:
Math to include all properties as set forth by the Massachusetts STEM Curriculum
language
pre-reading
science
art
music
social studies and the understanding of being a Global Citizen
engineering
technology
geography
physical adaptability
Peacemaker skills
Our goal is to maintain a happy, cheerful learning environment; one that each child will come to fully understand their environment, the Earth as our home and all of its many gifts.
Also, as a daily part of our curriculum and on-going learning process, we believe in fostering a peacemaker attitude. We encourage sharing, cooperation, active listening skills, problem solving, risk taking and total immersion so that we, as a class may be helpers and teachers for one another.
Healthy habits are a part of each day and incorporate good nutrition and daily exercise, along with daily yoga and yoga breathing to help us relax during moments of stress or difficulty.
We believe that children learn by doing, it requires active thinking and experimentation to discover how things work and to learn firsthand about this place we call Earth, otherwise known as our global community.
The Rainbow Workshop and Learning Center is dedicated to living in a peaceful manner and bringing the message of peace to all of our families and children. We assist all children in the process of learning how to create their own and individual peaceful solutions to any conflict that may arise throughout their day. We choose to live our lives in a manner that shows respect and kindness for all life, therefore helping to create and foster self esteem and understanding the cultural differences and diversity that we each bring and that which allows us to embrace fully.
It is the philosophy of this Center to invite play through creativity, cooperation and positive language and actions where together we all serve as role models for one another.
